The Arbitration Association Brunei Darussalam (“AABD’) was founded on 18th May 2005 and is an independent non-profit making arbitration association aimed to promote arbitration and mediation as the preferred alternative in the settlement of commercial disputes in Brunei.
The core objectives of AABD are as follows :
- To promote, encourage and facilitate the practice of settlement of disputes by arbitration and to promote the study of Commercial Arbitration and the Law and Practice relating to arbitration.
- To establish and maintain good relations with other Appointing Authorities and Institutions of Arbitrators in other countries and to participate in the activities of any reputable international arbitration organisations.
- To maintain a list of experienced and reputable arbitrators with international standing who can be identified as being learned and leading arbitrators in Commercial Arbitration practice and can be selected by the members of the association or members of the public who may want to engage such an arbitrator.
- To act as the statutory default appointing authority for arbitrators under current legislation in Brunei Darussalam.
