Dr. Chen Fuyong
Dr. CHEN Fuyong is the Deputy Secretary-General of the Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Center (BAC/BIAC) and the Vice-President of Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG). He is a qualified PRC lawyer with a LLB from China University of Political Science and Law, a LLM from Peking University and a PhD from Tsinghua University. Dr. Chen was a visiting researcher (2007-08) at the Law School of UC-Berkeley and is a Research Fellow of the Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution at Renmin University of China.
Dr. Chen is the General Editor of Beijing Arbitration Quarterly and has published over ten journal articles on commercial dispute resolution, including “Striving for Independence, Competence and Fairness: A Case Study of Beijing Arbitration Commission”, in The American Review of International Arbitration, v.18/no.3. His dissertation titled “The Unfinished Transformation: An Empirical Analysis of the Current Status and Future Trends of China’s Arbitration Institutions” was awarded 2010 Beijing Excellent Doctoral Dissertation. Dr. Chen is the co-author of Chinese Arbitration Law(LexisNexis 2015)and China Arbitration Handbook (Sweet & Maxwell 2011). He is also the Chinese co-translator of Gary Born’s International Arbitration: Law and Practice and Christopher R. Drahozal and Richard W. Naimark’s Towards a Science of International Arbitration: Collected Empirical Research.
Dr. Chen has extensive experience in handling various commercial disputes through arbitration and mediation and is a regular speaker at international conferences and seminars.
Prof. Philip Yang
Mr. Philip Yang has been a full-time arbitrator for well over 30 years, mainly in international trade, shipping and commercial disputes. He has published/issued over 650 arbitration awards as a sole or co-arbitrator. Mr. Yang is the Honorary Chairman of the HKIAC, the member of the International Advisory Board of CIETAC, the member of the International Advisory Board of Asian International Arbitration Centre, the Committee Member of International Arbitration Committee of KCAB, the member of the General Committee of SCMA, the immediate past Vice-Chairman of the BIMCO Documentary Committee, the Past President of the APRAG, and the past Hong Kong Representative of ICC International Court of Arbitration. He has published many books and a lot of articles on international trade, shipping and arbitration related topics/matters.
Prof. Anselmo Reyes, SC
Anselmo Reyes practises as an arbitrator. He was Professor of Legal Practice at Hong Kong University from October 2012 to September 2018. Before that, he was a judge of the Hong Kong High Court from September 2003 to September 2012, when he was in charge of the Construction and Arbitration List (2004-8) and the Commercial and Admiralty Lists (2008-12). He was Representative of the Hague Conference on Private International Law’s Regional Office Asia Pacific from April 2013 to July 2017. He became an International Judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court in January 2015.
Prof. Leslie Chew, SC
Prof Leslie Chew, SC is the Dean of the School of Law at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. He is a Senior Counsel and continues to practice as a Senior Consultant at RHT Law Asia.
He is a retired Senior District Judge of the State Courts of Singapore.
In the course of his career as a lawyer of some 28 years in private practice and 10 years in the public service, Leslie has had a wide practice covering most areas of commercial law including international arbitration. He is a past President and a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Leslie actively sits as arbitrator in both domestic and international arbitrations. He is also currently the Co-ordinator and instructor for the subject, ‘The Law and Practice of Arbitration’ in the Singapore Institute of Legal Education’s Bar Examinations, Part B.
Prof. Dr. Huala Adolf

Prof. Dr. Huala Adolf FCBArb <huala.adolf@yahoo.com> is the vice chairman of BANI Arbitration Center. He is also the professor of international law at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Padjadjaran and head of the center of international trade law and arbitration at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, Indonesia. He has published books and articles (mainly in Indonesian language) on international trade and economic law, international settlement of disputes, and arbitration. He is a listed arbitrator and fellow at BANI Arbitration Center.
Prof. Hi-Taek Shin
Chairman, KCAB INTERNATIONAL
Professor Hi-Taek Shin is the Chairman of the KCAB INTERNATIONAL, Korean Commercial Arbitration Board’s international division. He teaches resolution of disputes arising from cross-border transactions at Seoul National University School of Law since 2007. Prior to moving to academia, he was a partner at Kim & Chang specializing in mergers and acquisitions, cross-border investments and the resolution of disputes arising from cross-border investment projects. He regularly sits as an arbitrator, both in international commercial arbitrations and investment treaty arbitrations. He is on the panel of arbitrators for CIETAC, HKIAC, AAA/ICDR, ICSID, JCAA, KCAB, SCIA, SIAC and THAC. He is a member of International Commercial Expert Committee, Supreme People’s Court of China, He is a member of the Governing Board of ICCA.
He authored the Korean chapter in ‘The UNCITRAL Model Law and Asian Arbitration Laws’ (G. Bell ed., 2018, Cambridge University Press), the Korean chapter in ‘Commentaries on Selected Model Investment Treaties’ (C. Brown edited, 2013) and ‘UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the Investment Treaty Arbitration Practice’ (in Korean, 2013).
He received LL.M. and J.S.D from Yale Law School and LL.B. and LL.M from Seoul National University.
Prof. Doug Jones AO
Doug jones AO is a leading independent international commercial and investor-state arbitrator with over 40 years’ prior experience as an international transactional and disputes project lawyer. Doug is an arbitrator member at Arbitration Place in Toronto, a door tenant at Atkin Chambers London and has an office in Sydney. Doug is also an International Judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court.
He has been involved in over 130 arbitrations which include construction, infrastructure, energy, commodities, intellectual property, joint venture, and investor-state disputes spanning over 30 jurisdictions around the world. He has extensive experience as arbitrator under the ICC, LCIA, AAA, ICDR, KCAB, AIAC (formerly KLRCA), CRCICA, SIAC, VIAC, SCC, DIAC, ACICA, IAMA, AMINZ, European Development Fund Arbitration and Conciliation Rules, as well as the ICSID and UNCITRAL Rules, in disputes of values exceeding some billions $US.
Doug has published and spoken extensively and holds professorial appointments at Queen Mary College, University of London and Melbourne University Law School. In addition, Doug has held appointments at several international professional associations, including serving as the President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA). In 2018, Doug chaired the International Council of Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) Congress held in Sydney.
Doug was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2012 in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his distinguished service to the law and leadership in arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, policy reform, and national and international professional organisations. In 2018, Doug was awarded the John Shaw Medal in recognition of his lasting contribution to the road transport industry in Australia and internationally.

Prof. Francis Law is the President of the Academy of International Dispute Resolution and Professional Negotiation (AIDRN), President of Hong Kong Mediation Centre (HKMC), Founding Chairman of Mainland- Hong Kong Joint Mediation Center (MHJMC), Founding Chairman of the International Dispute Resolution and Risk Management Institute (IDRRMI), Chairman of the Hong Kong International Mediation Centre (HKIMC) and the Chairman of the Hong Kong Centre of International Commercial Arbitration (HKCICA), Vice-Chairman of the Asia Pacific Centre for Arbitration and Mediation. Past Chairman of Asian Mediation Association (AMA), Vice-Chairman of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Mediation Alliance GHMMA), Chairman of the National Copyright Protection (Hong Kong) Centre. Prof. Law is serving on the mediator and arbitrator panels of over 25 regions/countries. From 2012 to 2018, he was appointed by the Secretary of Justice of Hong Kong as the member of the Steering Committee on Mediation, Accreditation Sub-committee, Regulatory Framework Sub-committee and Public Education and Publicity Sub-committee.
He is the Lead Trainer and the Lead Assessor of the Dispute Resolution profession in Hong Kong, China and other Asia countries and had trained over 3000 mediators, 150 Assessors, International Risk Managers, Advocates, Coaches and Trainers globally. Prof Law presents over 50 talks each year. He also assists Arbitration and Mediation Institutions in Asia to set up mediation policy, design mediation training and establish the assessment and disciplinary mechanism. Prof. Law is a columnist publishing articles in commercial and workplace disputes resolution in newspaper/ magazines. Since 2016, he has been leading delegations to attend the United Nation Commission of International Trade Law Sessions and presented professional comments and contributed to the Singapore Mediation Convention. Prof. Law was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the Secretary of Home Affairs to command for his dedicated services and outstanding contribution to the promotion of mediation professional services.
Prof. Shin-Ichiro Abe
Shin-Ichiro Abe has more than two decades of experience as a lawyer working in both domestic and international dispute resolution (including litigation, mediation and arbitration). Professor Abe earned an LL.M. in Japanese law from Waseda University and subsequently went on to also earn an LL.M. from UCLA. Professor Abe is a visiting law professor both at Chuo Law School and at Kokushikan University (master’s and doctorate programs) and has years of experience teaching dispute, ADR and corporate law. Professor Abe is the Chairman of JIIART (Japan Institute of International Arbitration Research and Training), the founder of Kasumigaseki International Law office (International Arbitration Chambers) and was formerly head of the Practice Group of Baker & McKenzie’s Tokyo office.
Professor Abe has invited and contributed to numerous publications and spoken at many domestic and international events in the fields of arbitration/mediation and corporate law. He speaks regularly at arbitration conferences and seminars across the world but has a particular interest in the ASEAN region.

Prof. Jayavadh Bunnag
Professor Jayavadh has been practicing law more than 5 decades long. He began his career in law after graduating from a prestigious Thai university in 1969. Via his sheer dedication and commitment for law, he was granted a Fulbright Scholarship and obtained an LL.M from the renowned Harvard University in 1972. With the full knowledge of both local and international laws, Professor Jayavadh is conversant in the rapidly changing legal landscape of Thailand.
Professor Jayavadh is well-versed in all aspects of the commercial law practice, specializing in natural resources laws (minerals, oil & gas and energy) . He was Vice President of the Thai Mineral Industry Council for many years and still serves as its Honorary Legal Advisor. He also acts as an arbitrator and counsel in both domestic and international arbitrations. He was the first Thai to become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and a Chartered Arbitrator and chaired its Thailand Branch for many years.
Despite his busy professional schedule, Professor Jayavadh teaches at many Thai universities and is still involved in assisting them in their academic activities. In recognition of his academic contribution to Thammasat University, he received royal appointment as its Adjunct Professor of Commercial Law. He is on the Committee of the Council of State to Revise Laws on Business Organizations.

Cao li jun
Lijun Cao is the head of Zhong Lun’s arbitration practice. He is licensed to practice law in China and the New York State.
Before starting the private practice, he worked with CIETAC for many years. Among his professional affiliations, Lijun is a panellist (arbitrator) of CIETAC, HKIAC, SIAC, AIAC, ICDR, WIPO, CMAC.
Lijun is also a Member of the SIAC Court of Arbitration, a member of the Advisory Committee of the CRCICA, the Vice Chairman of the Arbitration Committee of ICC China, and the Secretary General of the Arbitration Committee of All China Lawyers Association (ACLA).
Lijun has represented clients in over 180 arbitration cases. He was a key member of the legal team that successfully defended the PRC government in an ICSID case (Ansung Housing Co., Ltd. v. People’s Republic of China).
YA Dato' Mary Lim Thiam Suan
Justice Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan read law at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom and graduated with an LLB (Hons) degree. She was later admitted to Lincoln’s Inn as a Barrister-at-law. She subsequently obtained her Master of Laws degree from the University of Western Australia.
Prior to her elevation to the High Court of Malaya where she had sat in the new Commercial Court, Justice Lim served in various capacities at the Attorney General’s Chambers of Malaysia. These include as Federal Counsel, Senior Federal Counsel, Senior Assistant Parliamentary Draftsman, Legal Advisor to the State of Negeri Sembilan, Deputy Head of Civil Division and Commissioner of Law Revision and Law Reform.
In these various postings, she learnt and acquired skills in litigation, negotiation, translation and frequently conducted civil trials and appeals in Court and in relation to both domestic and international arbitration, representing the Government of Malaysia. She also has first-hand experience in drafting [for both commercial and statutory instruments in the form of contracts and Parliamentary bills; she was in fact part of an industrious and able team of drafters of the Arbitration Act 2005 of Malaysia].
Justice Lim was the first judge of the Construction Court in Kuala Lumpur, a specialist court established to address the concerns and demands of the construction and arbitration community. There, she also presided over the first claims under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012, enacted to deal with payment problems in the construction industry, quite aside from the numerous construction claims, challenges to arbitration awards and applications for interim remedies.
Her Ladyship was later elevated to the Court of Appeal and in 2020 was elevated to the Federal Court of Malaysia, the apex Court in Malaysia.
Justice Lim is a frequent speaker at arbitration forums, both at home and abroad, seeing such opportunities as ideal for the exchange of ideas, keeping abreast and for the proper and sound development of the law. Justice Lim has written, co-written and published on the subject of arbitration, especially with regard to the role of the Court.
Justice Lim is a qualified advocacy trainer with the Bar Council Malaysia and has conducted numerous courses on civil and criminal advocacy as well as appellate and written advocacy. She has taught in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Dubai International Financial Centre. She was a member of the teaching faculty of the Advanced Advocacy Course conducted annually by the South-Western Circuit at Keble College, Oxford, prior to pandemic times. Recently, she co-designed and spoke at the Judicial Exchange Programme in Istanbul, Turkey. This programme was conducted by the Department of Commerce, United States of America in collaboration with the Malaysian Judiciary and was attended by judges from the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Justice Lim remains a strong advocate of continuing legal education for all interested, concerned or connected with the administration of justice and often has interns in her Chambers.
